Lassonde Bursaries, Scholarships and Awards

This month the Lassonde School of Engineering is featuring the following awards (Deadlines may vary):

Kenneth B. Benson Scholarship

Value: $7,500

Deadline: October 27, 2017

Description: The Kenneth B. Benson & Canadian Institute of Steel Construction Civil Engineering Scholarship will be awarded from FW14 thru FW18. From 2015 onward, the student recipient for the year prior will be invited to attend the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction Annual Conference with reasonable travel expenses covered by the Institute. Student recipient agrees to have their first and last name, faculty, major and year of study announced at the annual convention and listed in convention literature. From 2016 onward, each year’s student recipient will be given the opportunity to interview for a summer internship at Benson Steel.

Eligibility:  In 2015, the scholarship will be awarded to a second year student enrolled in the Civil Engineering Program and who demonstrates a balance of good academic standing in his/her studies and leadership qualities. The 2014 recipient could also be eligible if he/she meets the 2015 Scholarship selection criteria. From 2016 onward, the scholarship will be awarded to a third year student enrolled in the Civil Engineering Program and its structural Design Course. The student will demonstrate a balance of good academic standing in his/her studies and leadership qualities

Merei Family Scholarship

Value: $1,000

Deadline: October 27, 2017

Description: The Merei Family Scholarships have been created to benefit students enrolled in the Department of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science in the Lassonde School of Engineering at York University.  Two scholarships will be awarded to first year students and will be renewable should the recipient continue to meet the criteria and maintain a minimum GPA of 7.5.

Eligibility: To be eligible for this award, students must have a high academic standing, demonstrate leadership, financial need with preference given to female candidates.

Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation for Education Undergraduate Scholarship

Value: $1,500

Deadline: October 27, 2017

Description: The Ontario Professional Engineers Foundation for Education Undergraduate Scholarship will be awarded annually to 1 male and 1 female student entering the Lassonde School of Engineering from a Canadian high school.  

Eligibility: To be considered, candidates must have achieved a minimum admission average of 80% or equivalent. Along with this, applicants must be well-rounded students who exhibit characteristics of leadership.
