A PhD position is available from September 2019 at the Technological Center of Industrial Waste in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec in collaboration with York University, Toronto to investigate the bioxidation of low refractory gold ores in bioheaps.
We are seeking for highly motivated and independent student, able to formulate testable hypothesis, design and carry out column tests, bench work experiments, have strong communication skills and be willing to work collaboratively with other members of a research team. The candidate should hold a Msc. degree in environmental microbiology/biotechnology /mineral processing or a related field.
Prior work experience on metal bioleaching or oxidation from mineral ores is essential. Background in screening extremophiles bacteria, microbiology, metagenomics, metabolomics will be an advantage. Experience in working with standard molecular methods (e.g. nucleic acid extraction from stool samples, PCR, qRT-PCR), and next-generation sequencing (library preparations and subsequent bioinformatics data analysis) is preferred.
