The Lassonde School of Engineering, York University seeks to identify and nominate emerging or established leaders in research areas related to their programs in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and in the Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering. Successful candidates will be nominated for a Canada 150 Research Chair to commence July 1, 2018.  

Specific research areas of interest for nominees in the Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering include Geomatics Science and Engineering, particularly Data Science, Machine Learning or Deep Learning for Spatial Data Analytics and Visualization. Outstanding candidates in other areas of Earth Science, Atmospheric Science, Planetary Science, Geomatics Engineering and Space Engineering are also encouraged to apply.  

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science invites outstanding candidates in all areas of Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Digital Media, and Electrical Engineering to apply. Specific research areas of interest include Computer Security with an emphasis on Software Security and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning.

These are tenure-stream positions, rank open, and conditional on the successful nomination of the applicant as a Canada 150 Research Chair.  Canada 150 Chairs are a new initiative of the Canadian federal government providing Canadian institutions with a one-time investment to attract top-tier, internationally based scholars and researchers to Canada. Appointments to Canada 150 Chairs are for 7 years and are accompanied by a full-time tenure-stream faculty position. To be eligible for this award, nominees must be internationally based at the time of the application (both working and residing outside of Canada), including Canadian expatriates.

The successful candidates will have PhD in a field directly related to programs offered by the department and a record of excellence in scholarly research including publications appropriate to their stage of career. The successful candidates will demonstrate excellence, or promise of excellence, in teaching and graduate supervision and be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. For junior candidates, preference will be given to those with a prior faculty appointment and a minimum of three years of postdoctoral experience, or equivalent qualifications, and a track record including a funded research program.

The deadline for applications is July 28, 2017. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.
