We are seeking an innovative and inspiring engineering educator for an alternate-stream (teaching-focused) tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Lecturer to serve as course director and laboratory instructor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Lassonde School of Engineering, York University. This appointment is to commence July 1, 2017.

The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for teaching and program development, in particular the development, enhancement, coordination and delivery of laboratory practicum components of undergraduate courses (and possibly graduate courses) and student projects. S/he will also contribute to supporting students' learning through pedagogical innovation (e.g., flipped classroom), outcomes-based student assessment, interactions with industry, learning technologies, and collegial governance of the program.

The successful candidate must provide documented evidence of excellence or promise of excellence in teaching, particularly in the development and delivery of courses with significant laboratory practicum component, and a commitment to innovative pedagogy, with the potential for programmatic leadership. S/he must have a first degree (BASc, BEng or equivalent) and a PhD in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline. The successful candidate will be highly knowledgeable in core areas of Civil Engineering, including engineering mechanics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, hydraulics, soil mechanics, foundations, water and wastewater treatment, and highway materials. Experiences in teaching other related areas, such as transportation planning and engineering, sustainable infrastructure, asset and project management, and/or advanced and emerging civil engineering technologies will be an asset. In addition, candidates should possess excellent communications skills and be committed to working collegially. They should possess vision and commitment to inspire continued advancement of the Department's educational programs. The candidate must be eligible for licensure as a Professional Engineer in Ontario. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated experience in accreditation and curriculum quality assurance processes.
