NSERC DISCOVERY GRANT: FACULTY OF SCIENCE WORKSHOP
Tuesday, August 14th, 2018
Time and Location: TBA (~2-3 hours)
To further assist applicants in the development of their NSERC Discovery Grant applications, the Faculty of Science will be hosting an interactive workshop. This workshop will provide a hands-on approach to developing a strong, well-rounded application. All researchers who are planning to apply to the 2018-2019 NSERC Discovery Grant competition are encouraged to attend.
The workshop will include:
1) A Mock Review of Past Grants
Using past grants as the example, we will present tips on how to develop the “HQP Training” and “Excellence of the Researcher” sections of the Discovery Grant application. Attendees will participate in the mock review by identifying strong and/or weak areas of the written application. This session will provide researchers with guidelines that will help strengthen their own applications moving forward.
2) Mini-Peer Review Session
Workshop attendees will also participate in a mini peer-review session. Each attendee will be asked to prepare a one-page impact document before coming to the workshop, which highlights the important aspects of the research proposal (a template will be circulated). Based on research disciplines, participants of the workshop will be divided into small groups and will have a chance to comment, and receive comments, on the prepared documents. The conversation and feedback on the impact document will come from peers working in related fields and will be led by a previously highly successful Discovery Grant grantee or evaluation group committee member. The session will help to ensure that the proposal is clear and that the critical elements are aptly articulated.
To assist us in planning this session, please confirm your attendance by registering here by Friday, July 27th.
