The Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering (ESSE) invites applications for a tenure-stream position at the Assistant Professor level in the field of Space Engineering to commence on July 1, 2019, subject to budgetary approval. While we welcome applications from individuals with research experience in the traditional and interdisciplinary areas of space engineering, special attention will be given to individuals with research experience that complements our current activities. Current research activities in Space Engineering at York University include attitude dynamics and control, nano-satellite technology, space instrumentation, and space mission design. Research areas of particular interests include but not limited to propulsion, orbit dynamics, attitude determination, space navigation, space materials and structures, payload design and so on.

The successful candidate must have earned a PhD in Space Engineering or a closely-related field. Candidates are expected to demonstrate excellence, or promise of excellence, in teaching and scholarly research. The successful candidate is required to teach and supervise students at both undergraduate and graduate levels, establish a viable, externally-funded research program, build strong linkages with industry, assist in the administrative tasks of the department and the university, and must be eligible for prompt appointment to the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The successful candidate shall also demonstrate commitment to the engineering profession by being licenced as a Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario or by becoming licenced soon after appointment.

The Department of Earth and Space Science and Engineering at the Lassonde School of Engineering offers undergraduate (BEng and BSc) and graduate (MSc and PhD) programs in Geomatics Engineering, Space Engineering, Geomatics Science, Space Science, and Atmospheric Science that develop students’ critical thinking and problem-solving abilities needed for current and future technical leadership roles in industry, government and academia.
