Computer Science, Teaching Stream – Assistant Professor (2 Positions) - Markham

The Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, York University invites highly qualified candidates to apply for two (2) teaching stream tenure-track positions in computer science at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, to commence July 1, 2021. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. All York University positions are subject to budgetary approval.

 

The successful applicants will be based at the new York Markham Centre Campus when operational (expected in Fall 2023) and become members of the first cohort of resident faculty members. Between July 1, 2021 and the opening of the campus, the appointees will assume a combination of teaching responsibilities at York’s Keele campus and contribute to the development of academic and research programming planned for the new Markham Centre Campus.

One position has a significant focus on work-integrated learning and non-traditional delivery in digital technologies. The other is concentrated on developing and advancing an exciting, experiential-learning centric, and community-based computer science program. The successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate courses and to provide creative educational leadership in enhancing teaching and learning through curricular and pedagogical innovation in the classroom and at the program level. Graduate teaching may be possible for those appointed to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

 

Candidates should have a PhD in Computer Science (or closely related field), a Master’s degree in Computer Science (or closely related field) along with a doctorate focusing on higher education pedagogy (such as Ed.D), or both Bachelor and Master’s degrees in Computer Science (or closely related field) with a significant record of professional experience in computer science and software development.

 

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence or clear potential for excellence in teaching university-level courses through: the teaching statement; teaching accomplishments and pedagogical innovations including in high priority areas such as experiential education, technology enhanced learning and community-based learning; teaching evaluations; and strong letters of reference. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a strong commitment to pedagogy and student success, the capacity to bring a theoretical and practical orientation to computer science teaching, learning and program design, and demonstrate good judgment and a reflective approach to innovation in teaching. Experience with curriculum development and universal design approaches to teaching and assessment is preferred. The successful candidate is also expected to provide evidence of service contributions or potential to contribute to service in administrative and committee work.
