Collaborative Research and Training Opportunities with Supervision

Research Supervisor

A Graduate Research Supervisor at the Lassonde School of Engineering is a distinguished academic professional dedicated to nurturing the intellectual growth and research capabilities of graduate students. They play a pivotal role in guiding the next generation of scholars, researchers, and experts in their respective fields.

To excel in your graduate education journey, it’s crucial to find the perfect match. We strongly advise MASc and PhD students to connect with a research supervisor to collaborate on their research. Use the options below to explore available supervisors actively seeking graduate students for research partnerships.

The following faculty are seeking PhD students to advise in the 2023-2024 academic year.

Tips on reaching out

The student-supervisor relationship is one of the most important features of a student’s graduate school experience.  It is important to find a supervisor who is a good fit for you and will have a shared commitment to advancing your academic and professional goals.

Read the biographies noting the supervisor’s research interests, publications and other academic activities.  Some supervisors may also include graduate students that they have supervised.
Using your preferred search engine, look for publications, networking sites, and/or other associations.
o   Email the supervisor indicating your interest in graduate studies and that you would like to conduct research with them.  Also include your transcript and CV.
o   Ask to meet with them either via zoom or in-person.  If you can meet with them in-person, ask to have a tour of the lab and to meet with current graduate students.
o   How many graduate students are supervised by this professor?
o   What is the supervision style?
o   What is the personal interaction style?
o   How frequently would you meet with the supervisor?
o   On average, how long does a student in this research group complete their degree requirements?
o   What is the research group culture like?
