Description: The Aleksandar Spasov Memorial Award was created to benefit first-generation students enrolled in an undergraduate program within the Lassonde School of Engineering. Aleksandar Spasov immigrated to Canada from former Yugoslavia with his family when he was a teenager. He overcame poverty through hard work, determination, and ingenuity. Aleksandar founded a mechanical insulation business and developed an industry-leading product and application technique. He believed strongly that education plays a critical role in transforming people’s lives. Aleksandar gave generously to help support his family, community, and those in need, awarded annually in recognition of outstanding academic achievement in 3rd year and enrolled in an Honors Degree program majoring in any of the programs offered by Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

Eligibility: Lassonde Undergraduate students must be the first member of their families to pursue post-secondary education and must demonstrate leadership and community service at Lassonde or within the wider community which relates to the United Nations Sustainable Development goals.

How to Apply: Application will open in September 2023. All students will be notified by email. Applicants must be the first member of their immediate family (Parents have not attended College or University in or outside Canada) to pursue post-secondary education and must be required to submit a one-page statement outlining their leadership and community service at Lassonde or within the wider community which relates to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (For more information about the UN goals go to https://sdgs.un.org/goals).
Value: $500 approximately
Description: The Angel Paw Prize will be awarded to a first-year student on the Lassonde School of Engineering who has the highest grade point average across EECS 1012 (Net-Centric Introduction to Computing) and EECS 1022 (Programming for Mobile Computing) or equivalent. The Angel Paw Prize has been established in loving memory by the family of Phillip Wedderburn who passed away at the age of 24 in 2015 from cancer. He was a Seneca@ York student and died before finishing his degree. Phillip loved computers and was passionate about technology; he was specifically interested in software engineering and development. While he was a student, he worked on a Google Glasses project which he particularly enjoyed. This award honours Phillip’s legacy.
Eligibility: The award is based on academic achievement.
How to Apply: No application is required. Student Financial Services will select the recipient in collaboration with the EECS department.

Description: Awarded annually in recognition of outstanding academic achievement in 3rd year and enrolled in an Honors Degree program majoring in any of the programs offered by Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.
Eligibility: The award is based on academic achievement.
How to Apply: No application is required. EECS department selects students based on academic achievement.
Value: $1,500 each
Description: Awarded to one student who has successfully completed the ESSE4660 Cadastral Surveys and Land Registration Systems.
Eligibility: Award goes to students who have successfully completed the ESSE4660 Cadastral Surveys and Land Registration Systems and has a) obtained the highest grades in the class with a final course grade of B or higher (70 and above); and demonstrated a strong interest in cadastral surveys during the course (class, assignments, projects, career as OLS, and other related course activities).

Description: Awarded to one continuing female student who is enrolled in either Geomatics Engineering or the Geomatics Science stream, and who demonstrates good academic standing, and a commitment to helping her fellow students and the community at the Lassonde School of Engineering.
Eligibility: The recipient must be an undergraduate student with a cumulative grade point average of 6.0 or higher. Students are required to submit a CV and a personal statement that outlines their experience and explains their commitment to helping their fellow students and their community at the Lassonde School Of Engineering.
How to Apply: Students must submit the personal statement & C.V. to the Department of Earth and Space Science & Engineering (ESSE), 102 Petrie Science Building.

Description: Two awards of $1000 each will be awarded to two students who have successfully completed the ESSE4660 Cadastral Surveys and Land Registration Systems.
Eligibility: Award goes to students who have successfully completed the ENG4660 Cadastral Surveys and Land Registration Systems and have obtained the 2nd highest grade in the class and demonstrates a strong interest in cadastral surveys during the course (class, assignments, projects, career as OLS, and other related course activities).

Value: $1,000 each
Description: Two awards of $1000 each will be awarded to two students who are registered to the course ESSE4670 Survey Law, have successfully completed the course requirements.
Eligibility: Award goes to students who are registered to the course ENG4670 Survey Law, have successfully completed the course requirements and have obtained the highest grades in the class; have demonstrated a strong interest in cadastral surveys during the course (class, assignments, projects, career as an OLS, and other related course activities).

Description: Awarded to two geomatics engineering students who have successfully completed 66 credits and who have achieved the best grade point average based on all first- and second-year core curriculum courses of the Geomatics engineering program.

Description: Awarded to two geomatics engineering students who have successfully completed 102 credits and who have achieved the best grade point average from the core curriculum as appropriate for geomatics engineering students in their third year of study.

Description: AOLS Hubert J. Reinthaler Award, Geomatics Engineering. One award of $1000 will be granted to one of the four recipients (those who have successfully completed 102 credits) of the AOLS Geomatics Engineering Awards.
Eligibility: The recipient is a well-rounded student with a combination of high academic standing and evident characteristics of enthusiasm, leadership and professionalism.

Description: The Atena Arabsalmany Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate female students enrolled in the Space Engineering program in the Lassonde School of Engineering at York University. The Atena Arabsalmany Memorial Scholarship was established in loving memory of Atena Arabsalmany who was a third-year Space Engineering student at York University when she tragically died in 2008. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage female students to pursue careers in aerospace engineering and reinforce the status of women in this field.
Eligibility: Students must meet the 7.5-grade point average requirement, be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person, an Ontario resident and demonstrate financial need.

Description: B.W. Boville Prize in Atmospheric Sciences.
Eligibility: Awarded to a student completing Year 3 or 4 or a certificate program in Atmospheric Science, with a minimum grade point average of 7.00 (B+).
How to Apply: No application is required. Selection is based on academic merit.
Value: No monetary award.
Description: Each year, two top students in the Bergeron Entrepreneurs in Science & Technology (BEST) program are identified and awarded for their academic achievement and/or entrepreneurial excellence with the Bergeron Medal of Distinction. This interdisciplinary program in entrepreneurship and new ventures will provide and teach real-world business experience to aspiring student-entrepreneurs. A special notation will appear on the selected recipients’ transcript.
Eligibility: Must be one of the two top students in the Bergeron Entrepreneurs in Science & Technology (BEST) program.

Description: The Cansel Award will be awarded to full-time undergraduate students in their 3rd or 4th year of study, enrolled in the Geomatics Engineering or Geomatics Science Program.
Eligibility: To be eligible, 3rd or 4th year students in Geomatics Engineering or Geomatics Science must have a overall grade point average of 6.0 or higher and demonstrate community involvement and leadership qualities by submitting their CV along with a personal statement that outlines their community experience and describes their leadership qualities that make them a strong candidate. Preference will be granted to students who have utilized the in-kind software and services (Can-Net) donated by Cansel Survey Equipment during their studies.
How to Apply: Students must submit the personal statement and CV to the Department of earth and Space Science & Engineering (ESSE), 102 Petrie Science Building by March 30th.

Description: This bursary will provide assistance to one or more female students enrolled in the Faculty of Science and the Lassonde School of Engineering.

Description: The family and friends of Dr. Geoffrey Hunter established this award to honour his career at York University in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science (formerly called the Faculty of Pure and Applied Science). This award will be given to an undergraduate student in the Faculty of Science or the Lassonde School of Engineering who has completed at least 30 credits with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 4.00 (C). Recipients must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, residents of Ontario and demonstrate financial need.

Description: The Dr. James Wu Bursary is awarded annually to an undergraduate student completing their engineering degree at York’s Lassonde School of Engineering. The recipient must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person, an Ontario resident and demonstrate financial need.

Description: Awarded to the student with the highest grade point average among all Year 2 students in space science and space engineering in the Lassonde School of Engineering. This prize was established in honour of Nabil Labib, who obtained his PhD in 1972 from the Centre for Research in Experimental Space Sciences (CRESS).

Description: The Dr. Peter Cribb Prize is given to a student entering their 4th year in a COSC or CSEC honours program at Lassonde School of Engineering who demonstrates exceptional promise through a combination of interests, leadership/community involvement, academic performance, and resilience through hardships and adversity.
Eligibility: To be eligible, applicants must also have a minimum GPA of 7.5. and must submit a one-page statement introducing themselves and outlining their plans and aspirations following graduation and what they have done during their time at York to help achieve this exceptional promise (e.g. co-op participation, community involvement, independent projects, etc).
How to Apply: To be considered for this award, applicants must submit a one-page statement outlining their career goals, leadership experience and community involvement through an online application. Description: This Scholarship will be awarded to a second-year student who has completed a minimum of 18 credits from the first year engineering requirements with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 6.00 over those credits and who has chosen to enter the geomatics engineering program in the Lassonde School of Engineering. If in a given year there are no geomatics engineering students that fit the criteria, the award may be given to a student entering first year in any of the engineering programs offered at York with an admission average of 85% or higher.
Eligibility: Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person and is a resident of Ontario. Must demonstrate financial need. Must be a second-year student who has chosen to enter the geomatics engineering program in Lassonde and has completed at least 18 credits from the first year engineering requirements with a minimum GPA of 6.00 over those credits.

Description: The Enbridge Engineering Scholarship will be given annually to an entering or continuing engineering student in the Lassonde School of Engineering. Recipients entering from secondary school must have a minimum admission average of 80%; continuing students must have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 7.5 or greater. The recipient must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person, a resident of Ontario, and demonstrate financial need.
Eligibility: Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person and is a resident of Ontario. Must demonstrate financial need. Recipients entering from secondary school must have a minimum admission average of 80%; continuing students must have a minimum undergraduate grade point average of 7.5 or greater.

Description: The Eshrat Arjomandi Scholarship in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science will be given annually to an undergraduate and/or graduate student studying or doing research in Computer and/or Electrical Engineering at York University. The recipients must have demonstrated academic excellence (minimum 7.5 GPA for undergraduate candidates and minimum ‘A’ average for graduate candidates); preference will be given to female students (under York’s Women in Science special program).
Eligibility: Minimum 7.5 GPA for undergraduate candidates and minimum ‘A’ average for graduate candidates. Must be in Computer and/or Electrical Engineering programs. Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person, resident of Ontario. Must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to female students.

Description: The Farzia Khan Champion for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Prize was created to benefit students enrolled at the Lassonde School of Engineering.
Eligibility: To be eligible, applicants must submit a personal statement outlining how they have demonstrated leadership and promoted an equitable, diverse and inclusive culture at Lassonde (e.g. via the establishment or development of a club, participation and promotion of events, contributing to research, etc). Preference will be given to female students.
How to Apply: Students will be notified by email when the application is open. Next application will be open in March 2024.

To apply for this award, applicants will submit a statement outlining their contribution to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) University life, to their school or academic department, or to Lassonde as a whole. One letter of support from a student or faculty or staff outlining your contribution will also be required. Applicants will be asked to voluntarily provide information about gender.

Description: Awarded to a full-time undergraduate student in a science or engineering degree program who demonstrates financial need. This award has been established in memory of the late George Faber by members of his family and his associates in the fur industry.

Description: General Motors of Canada Limited is committed to education and has established this bursary to assist York University undergraduate students in computer science. Description: The Hany Salama Bursary has been established to provide encouragement and financial support to one or two students who are majoring in computer science or mathematics or information technology and who have completed a minimum of 30 credits. Preference will be given to students majoring in information technology. Recipients must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, be Ontario residents and demonstrate financial need.
Eligibility: Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person and is a resident of Ontario. Must demonstrate financial need. Must also be majoring in computer science or mathematics or information technology and must have completed a minimum of 30 credits.

Description: The Jamie Loumankis Award was created to benefit undergraduate students who identify as women enrolled in the Lassonde School of Engineering. To be eligible, applicants must have a minimum grade average of 70% (6.0 GPA) and demonstrate financial need. They must also submit a one-page statement outlining their leadership and involvement in the community, with preference given to students actively engaged in the Mediterranean community (to include Spain, France, Monaco, Italy, Malta, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, and Libya).
Eligibility: Eligible applicants must have a minimum B average (6.0). Description:

The J.P. Hill Memorial Award for Indigenous Students will be awarded to an undergraduate student in their second year at the Lassonde School of Engineering. Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 6.0, self identify as First Nation, Metis or Inuit , and submit a short essay, in 500 words or less, demonstrating a history of community leadership, centered on improving and strengthening their home communities. The J.P. Hill Memorial Award for Indigenous Students in STEM, honours the legacy of John Peter Hill, the grandfather of Starrlee DeGrace, proud Indigenous woman and member of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation. J.P. encouraged his granddaughter to chase her dreams, to pursue post-secondary education and to not put limits on her potential based on current circumstances, which is the purpose of the J.P. Hill Memorial Award.

Application: To be considered for this award, applicants must complete the SFP and must self identify as an Indigenous learner.

Description:
This bursary is open to students who self-identify as women, enrolled in first year at the Lassonde School of Engineering undergraduate program in Electrical, Mechanical, Space, or Computer Engineering, and who demonstrates financial need.

Eligibility: To be eligible, applicants must submit a one-page statement outlining their leadership and community service experience. Recipients will also be invited to apply for a 4-month co-op term with KPM Power after their second year, as well as receive the optional opportunity to be mentored by the donor throughout their studies. The award will be renewable in the recipient’s second year, provided they remain in good academic standing and continue to demonstrate financial need.

How to Apply: First-year applicants
1) To demonstrate financial need, students must complete the scholarships and awards application in the MyFile.
2) Complete the Engineering program guarantee form.
3) Applicants must submit a one-page statement outlining their leadership and community service experience via the online application.

The award will be renewable in the recipient’s second year, provided they remain in good academic standing and continue to demonstrate financial need.

Description: The Kenneth B. Benson Scholarship will be awarded annually to a third-year student enrolled in the Civil Engineering program and its Structural Analysis course (CIVL 3130) with the Lassonde School of Engineering who demonstrates good academic standing in his/her studies and leadership qualities. Kenneth B. Benson has worked in the steel industry for over 50 years and established Benson Steel in 1980. With the reputation of a first-class Fabricator able to tackle the toughest challenges, Ken’s business knowledge, ability to mentor, coach and lead along with his integrity make him an industry leader. His impact is evidenced through the successful completion of such projects as Roy Thompson Hall retrofit, GM 16 Bay Expansion, Dover Elevator, Baycrest Centre, the Art Gallery of Ontario transformation and hundreds of other projects within the province of Ontario and abroad. For many years, Ken sat on the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction Board of Directors as an active member, and more recently as an Honorary Director. The student recipient for the year prior will be invited to attend the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction Annual Conference with reasonable travel expenses covered by the Institute. Student recipients must agree to have their first and last name, faculty, major and year of study announced at the annual conference and listed in conference literature. In addition, each year’s student recipient will be given the opportunity to interview for a summer internship at Benson Steel.
Eligibility: Third-year Civil Engineering undergraduate students who are enrolled in CIVL 3130 are eligible to apply. They must in good academic standing and demonstrate leadership qualities.

Description:
At Lassonde, we believe in developing engineers and scientists that not only have technical skills, but also passion, perspective and a creative spark.

The Lassonde Scholarship is one of the most generous awards available to undergraduate students who demonstrate creativity, passion, ingenuity, rational thinking and confidence in their academic pursuits, extracurricular activities and personal interests.

Eligible candidates must demonstrate: 1) exceptional academic grades (minimum admission averages of 80% or a grade point average of 7.0 or higher for continuing students) and 2) leadership in high school, university and/or community life, and/or evidence of entrepreneurial talent. Financial needs will be taken into consideration.

Eligibility: 1) Students must be applying to or enrolled in any program offered by the Lassonde School of Engineering 2) Candidates who meet the criteria of the grade are eligible to apply 3) Current students must have a full-time course load remaining in the year that the scholarship is offered (must have a minimum of 30 credits remaining)

Renewal eligibility: 1) Must maintain a minimum of a 7.0 cumulative grade point average 2) Attach a statement to demonstrate innovative, motivational leadership impacting the Lassonde community 3) Must be enrolled in full-time studies and have a minimum of 30 credits remaining in the Lassonde program.

Recipients of this scholarship are not eligible for the YU Automatic Entrance Scholarship or the York University Continuing Student Scholarship.

How to Apply: Students applying to any program offered by the Lassonde School of Engineering or who have completed their first year of study in a Lassonde School of Engineering program will be considered. Eligible candidates who meet the grades criteria are encouraged to apply.

Description: Awarded to an outstanding graduating undergraduate student in recognition of their extracurricular contributions to University life, to their school or academic department, or to Lassonde as a whole. (Fall & Spring graduates are eligible).
Eligibility: A student can apply or be nominated for this award by a student or faculty or staff. Fall graduates will be considered with the Spring graduates of the following year.
How to Apply: Application will open in April of every year and applicants will submit a statement outlining their contribution to University life, to their school or academic department, or to Lassonde as a whole. Letters of support from a student or faculty or staff outlining the student’s contribution will also be required. Nominations should be submitted to the Secretary of the Awards Committee through the Lassonde Welcome and Support Centre.

Description: Awarded to an outstanding graduating undergraduate student in recognition of the highest academic achievement in the Lassonde School of Engineering. (Fall & Spring graduates are eligible)
Eligibility: Recipients are selected on the basis of academic merit. Fall graduates will be considered with the Spring graduates of the following year.

Description: Awarded to an outstanding graduating undergraduate student in the Lassonde School of Engineering showing promise as a researcher. (Fall & Spring graduates are eligible).
Eligibility: Departments’ Awards Committees nominate one student per department. The Lassonde School of Engineering Awards committee will select the final recipient. Recipients are selected on the basis of their research contribution. Fall graduates will be considered with the Spring graduates of the following year.

Description: Praise Ayorinde is a YorkU Alumni that graduated from Lassonde with a degree in Computer  Science and Psychology. She came to study in Canada as an international student from Nigeria in  2013. She is currently working as a software engineering manager at Amazon. Praise created the  “Praise Ayorinde Scholarship” because she understands some of the struggles of international  students, and wanted to give back and help similar students from Africa with financial needs.

Application Process: This donation is designated to create a scholarship to benefit an entering or continuing undergraduate  international student with a minimum grade of 80% (for entering students) or a minimum grade point average of 7.5 (for continuing students). To be eligible, applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate program within the  Lassonde School of Engineering, and must have graduated from a high-school or post-secondary institution  in Africa. Description: The S&C Electric Canada Award will benefit women in their 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate program within the Lassonde School of Engineering. The award will recognize a combination of good academic standing and leadership/community service. Preference will be granted to students in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. If there are no eligible applicants in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, preference will be granted to students who demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the Electrical Industry (through IEEE chapter membership, enrolment in the EECS/Mechanical program, work and volunteer experience, etc.) Recipients will be offered the opportunity to apply for a summer co-op.

Description: This award will be presented to a student, entering or continuing, in the Lassonde School of Engineering with preference to a student in computer science, computer security or computer engineering. First preference shall be given to a student who demonstrates a clear and compelling passion for working within the Canadian-Somali community as indicated by a strong history of community service and leadership. This award is established in memory of Loyan Gilao, a Year 2 York University student, who was tragically killed on Aug. 8, 2005. Loyan was an outstanding Canadian citizen and gifted leader whose values espoused the need for peaceful communities and conflict resolution to reduce violence.

Description: The Mary & Hubert Lynch Undergraduate Research Internship for Computer Science and Engineering Students is intended for undergraduate computer science students or engineering students who wish to participate in a faculty member’s research project. Students will be invited to apply by faculty researchers. Selected students will have completed at least 54 credits with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 7.50 and will work directly with professors, post-doctoral fellows and/or graduate students primarily, but not exclusively, in York’s research centres. Fall and winter internships are full-time for approximately 14 weeks and provide $5,000 in financial assistance. The summer internship runs for two summer sessions. Research internships are intended to begin in the summer after Year 2 and conclude at the end of a Year 4 undergraduate program. Interns are expected to prepare a report or scientific paper by the end of their cumulative research internship experience. However, continuation in the internship placement is at the invitation of the faculty research supervisor and is based on satisfactory research work (including progress on the report or paper) and maintenance of a minimum cumulative grade point average of 7.50.
