The Weston Brain Institute recently launched the Early Phase Clinical Trials: Canada program to provide support for clinical trials and/or clinical trial sub-studies that have excellent preliminary data.  A summary is provided below.
 
Objective:
To provide funding to support translational research that accelerates the development of therapeutics for neurodegenerative disease of aging.
Projects must meet the following criteria to be eligible:
1)      Be a clinical trial(s) and/or a clinical trial sub-study(s) that accelerates the development of therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases of aging.
         -Projects that require only up to $200,000 over up to 18 months may also be submitted to the Rapid Response program.
         -Translational research other than clinical trials and/or clinical trial sub-studies should be submitted to the Transformational Research program or the Rapid Response program.
2)      Be the development of a therapeutic and/or tool.
 
New for 2018/2019:
Certain complementary approaches (i.e., diet, physical activity, sleep and nutritional supplements) will be eligible for funding through the Early Phase Clinical Trials program, if applications meet the Institute’s disease and project scope criteria.
The Institute encourage applications that bring in expertise, technologies or approaches in the following areas to advance the development of therapeutics and tools for neurodegenerative diseases of aging: Artificial Intelligence, big data, machine learning, data science, computer science, medicinal chemistry, biostatistics and engineering. 
 
Eligibility:
Principal applicants must be at or above the level of Assistant professor or equivalent.
Submission of full proposal to agency (by invitation only) – Applicants who are invited to the proposal phase will have ~2 months to submit the full application after the invite notification.
