SUMMARY:Addressing the Gender Gap in Computer Science Education
DESCRIPTION:On Friday, March 22 take part in an online workshop, jointly organized by  Women in Computer Science and Engineering (WISCE) and EDI committees in EECS.\nFriday, March 22\n2 pm – 3 pm\nRSVP\nA link will be provided to registrants to access the online session.\nPlease join us in a discussion with Dr. Jeria Queensbury, Professor at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU). She will review more than twenty years of work to promote gender equity at CMU, which has resulted in one of the most balanced distributions of undergraduate computer science students, in terms of gender, in North America.\nThis is an opportunity for us to discuss strategies that we might adopt, and to promote diversity and inclusion alongside skills to create meaningful, robust, and community-responsive computer science and engineering solutions.\nProfessor Quesenberry will speak with us about her work to create a more equitable and inclusive educational experience for computer science students at the undergraduate level.\nInterventions at CMU have included the creation of affinity groups and parallel curriculum pathways, to accommodate students that have a strong programming background at the point of program entry as well as those that do not.\nThe session promises to provide valuable insights and actionable steps toward creating a more inclusive, equitable learning environment.\nFor questions about this event, please contact Pooja Vashisth.\n
