Kenneth B. Benson Scholarship
Description: The Kenneth B. Benson Scholarship will be awarded annually to a third year student enrolled in the Civil Engineering program and its Structural Analysis course (CIVL 3130) with the Lassonde School of Engineering who demonstrates good academic standing in his/her studies and leadership qualities. Kenneth B. Benson has worked in the steel industry for over 50 years, and established Benson Steel in 1980. With the reputation of a first class Fabricator able to tackle the toughest challenges, Ken's business knowledge, ability to mentor, coach and lead along with his integrity make him an industry leader. His impact is evidenced through the successful completion of such projects as Roy Thompson Hall retrofit, GM 16 Bay Expansion, Dover Elevator, Baycrest Centre, the Art Gallery of Ontario transformation and hundreds of other projects within the province of Ontario and abroad. For many years, Ken sat on the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction Board of Directors as an active member, and more recently as an Honorary Director. The student recipient for the year prior will be invited to attend the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction Annual Conference with reasonable travel expenses covered by the Institute. Student recipients must agree to have their first and last name, faculty, major and year of study announced at the annual conference and listed in conference literature. In addition, each year's student recipients will be given the opportunity to interview for a summer internship at Benson Steel.
Eligibility: The scholarship will be awarded to a third year student enrolled in the Civil Engineering Program and completed its Structural Analysis Course. The student will demonstrate a balance of good academic standing in his/her studies and leadership qualities.

The Patel Family Scholarship for Building Strong Communities
Approximate Value: $1,000
Description: The Patel Family Scholarship for Building Strong Communities will recognize the best all-around student (undergraduate or graduate) who exhibits leadership qualities with an emphasis on helping fellow students and building strong communities within their school, community and/or workplace.
Eligibility: To be eligible for this award, undergraduate students must have a 7.5 grade point average and graduate students must have a minimum A average. Students must be enrolled in full time studies at the Lassonde School of Engineering

Students are required to submit a CV and a personal statement that: a) describes the leadership qualities that makes them a strong candidate, b) outlines their experience and c) discusses their commitment to building strong communities with the school, community and/or workplace. The Patel Family Fighting Spirit Award
Approximate Value: $1,000
Description: The Patel Family Fighting Spirit Award will recognize students who are able to persevere and overcome life's ups and downs with a fighting spirit by achieving the greatest jump in grade point average from one year to the next. Undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in fulltime studies at the Lassonde School of Engineering are eligible.
Eligibility: To be eligible for this award, undergraduate or graduate students must be enrolled in full time studies at the Lassonde School of Engineering
