Our Fall 2021 Plans

Fall 2021 will see a gradual return to campus. That means that most programs will have both virtual and in-person components.

We look forward to welcoming students back on campus and there will be increased opportunities for in-person learning in the Fall term. As we resume some in-person learning, we will continue to offer a selection of online courses to support those who are unable to come to campus at this time.

Please review the content on this page to see specific course and program information from each of our departments along with a list of helpful resources. We also recommend that students review the “notes” section of each class when selecting their Fall semester courses.

What to Expect: Programs

Earth & Space Science & Engineering

All Earth & Space Science & Engineering courses will have their lectures delivered remotely for the duration of the Fall 2021 term.

At this time, there will be three courses that offer in-person labs.

Please review the FAQ below for more information:

There are three tutorial sections:

T1: Tuesday 14:30-17:30
T2: Tuesday 11:30-14:30
T3: Wednesday 11:30-14:30

3 computer labs (Lab 3-5) will be offered in-person:

Lab 3: October 25-29
Lab 4: November 1-5
Lab 5: November 15-19
ALL labs will be run in-person. There are two lab sections:

Lab 1: Monday 14:30-17:30 in PSE315
Lab 2: Wednesday 10:00-13:00 in PSE315.
The lab will be delivered in-person in the last two weeks of class (November 22 – December 3, 2021).

The in-person component will be optional for students if they want to participate and we will limit the number of students in each lab section to the room capacity. This will be delivered in room PSE315.
At this time, we are planning for the Winter 2022 term to be a full return to campus with all courses being delivered in-person.

Please stay tuned for regular communication updates from the University.

All EECS courses will have their lectures delivered remotely for the duration of the Fall 2021 term. Course Directors may provide opportunities for some labs, tutorials, office hours or other course activities to take place in person. All in-person activities in the fall are optional; if you are unable to come to campus for in-person labs or tutorials, high-quality remote programming will be available.

We are eager to welcome students back to campus but we recognize that many students are still apprehensive or unable to return. There are also international students in our programs who may not be able to travel in time for the start of the Fall term.

Fall 2021 FAQ

You can find up-to-date information about courses being offered in person on the York courses website under the notes section. The Registrar Office website also has a comprehensive list of courses that have one or more in-person components. We also encourage you to review the information on this page for Lassonde program-specific lab, tutorial and lecture details.
Lassonde has committed to offering alternate accommodations for the Fall 2021 term.  Courses offered by departments in other faculties may require in-person components with no arrangements.  Please read the course notes carefully on the York courses website. We encourage you to review the website of the department offering the course and follow up with them should you have additional questions. You can also contact an advisor at ask@lassonde.yorku.ca
While York does not currently require vaccination to come to campus, everyone who is able is strongly encouraged to receive their vaccines. To learn more about vaccines and how they were developed, see the “Vaccine information” tab on the Better Together site.
York University is requiring all students living in residence for the 2021-22 academic year to be vaccinated. This requirement is supported by Toronto Public Health, as it is recognized that vaccines are a safe and effective way to protect those who come in contact with others, especially in shared spaces. For more information, visit York’s Better Together site.
York University has a website dedicated to keeping international students informed. Please visit the International Student FAQ to learn more.
