Brief biography<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua\u2019s research outputs are in jurisprudence (legal theory) and the social study of law, particularly as law relates to the human body and technological processes. Drawing on interdisciplinary forms of legal and social theory, he considers the role of law in contributing to technological processes and products and, vice versa<\/em>, how technological processes and products reinforce, mediate or produce legal ideas and relationships, including those relevant to what has lately been characterised as equity, diversity and inclusion. Joshua is a lawyer, having been called to the bar of Ontario as a barrister-at-law and solicitor in 2017, and worked on legislative and policy matters for the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Ontario.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Jin is an MESc student pursuing a degree in electrical engineering with a collaborative specialization in planetary sciences through the Western University Institute for Earth and Space Exploration. Under the supervision of Dr. Jayshri Sabarinathan, they are currently researching space qualification and systems engineering for the Integrated Vision System, a prototype lunar rover multispectral imager. He is also the Thermal Lead for the Ukpik-1 CubeSat, where he ensures that the temperatures it will experience in orbit remain within safe limits. They are passionate about human planetary exploration, having served on the crew of a space analog mission at the Mars Desert Research Station. Jin obtained their degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Waterloo.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

My research interests include Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Vision (CV). NLP is an attractive and quickly evolving subfield of Computer Science that is used to extract unknown insights from unstructured text or speech data. On the other hand, CV is one of the hottest topics in Artificial Intelligence that helps computers to comprehend digital images and videos. Language and visual data provide two complementary sets of information combined into a single story to make the basis for unambiguous communication. Hence, my research direction will be focused on the novel interdisciplinary field of integrating NLP and MV approaches. I believe the successful integration of such interdisciplinary scientific fields plays a central role in the rapid development of science and industry, and many long-standing challenges in multiple fields will be resolved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Shayan Ghiasvand received his bachelor\u2019s degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tehran (2019). For his bachelor\u2019s thesis, he was working on nonlinear control of the Ball and Beam system and designing a graphical user interface for the system. Currently, he is an M.A.Sc student in Mechanical Engineering at Concordia University, working on Intelligent Visual Servoing of Space Manipulators. His interests are Robotics, Mechatronics, Control Systems, and Visual Servoing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
