Bilel Bouaziz is a freshly graduated Material engineer from the National Engineering school of Sfax (Tunisia) and currently a master\u2019s degree student at the university of Quebec in Abitibi temiscamingue. Interested in the field of materials science and ecofriendly energy. Currently he is working on the valorization of willow wood for chemical and energetic applications.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Brief biography<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fatma BALI, an honours graduate as a Materials and Industrial Management Engineer, from the National Engineering School of Sfax, Tunisia. Currently studying a master’s degree at University of Quebec in Abitibi-T\u00e9miscamingue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A lifelong student materials, and specifically interested in the field of bio-composites and eco-friendly materials. Fatma is currently working on developing a new biodegradable composite dedicated to agricultural applications. Her project aims to fabricate a model of pots which can participate in both the growth of young trees and the replacement of plastic ones that have a negative effect on the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The link between Fatma\u2019s project and to the TABES training program is about the valorization of organic compost and forest industry residues (ash, sludge, biochar and other organic residues) and the development of a new biodegradable and eco-friendly bio-composite.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Khouloud Bouaziz is an electromechanical engineer. Currently, she is a student in Master\u2019s degree in the field of renewable materials at the University of Quebec in Abitibi-T\u00e9miscamingue (UQAT). Recently, she enrolled in the program of Training in Applied Biotechnology for Environmental Sustainability (TABES).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, she is working on a project titled \u201cdurability of bio-composites with high-performance\u201d which focuses on the development of composites based on natural fibres in order to meet the demand for affordable ecological materials such as bio-composite materials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This enthusiastic student is interested in Materials Science and Engineering. Specifically, she aims to enhance her background in innovative research by the development of ecological materials including the fabrication of functional materials that are responsive to external stimuli that could be utilized in a variety of real-world applications and industries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

I graduated from Faculty of Pharmacy, Mansoura University, Egypt in 2013 and ranked 3rd<\/sup> on a class of 1050 students. After graduation, I was working as a teaching assistant in Medicinal Chemistry Department at my home university for a year and half, then I Joined York University as a visiting student trainee for in 2017 doing research in Organic Chemistry Department for 18 months, this research focused on synthesis of novel anti-viral drug and end with publishing a research paper. Now I am a MSc student in Civil Engineering Department collaborating with Mechanical Engineering Department. My research focuses on detection of antibiotics in different environmental matrices using microfluidics. My project goal is to fabricate a portable and sensitive device for qualitative and quantitative detection of macrolide antibiotics in both surface water and wastewater.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Brief biography<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am an aspiring environmental microbiologist from India. With a foundation in biological sciences, a specialization in microbiology, and a desire to be an explorer, I developed an inclination towards application-based scientific research. By observing the deteriorating state of our planet due to anthropogenic activities, I am motivated to find solutions for the ongoing environmental concerns including waste generation and its consequent pollution. This is an aggravating concern that can potentially be targeted for an exhaustive use and thereby reducing the need for fresh production of numerous products. The environmental microbiome essentially offers a wide range of their applications that can be harnessed for reusing organic waste to generate industrially relevant products or alternative energy sources. I am thus interested in exploring this biological source towards creating an environmentally sustainable biotechnological application.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sofien Elleuch is a twenty-four-year-old technician, graduated from the higher institute of technological studies of Sfax (ISET) in Tunisia. He is currently a master’s student in engineering (renewable materials) at the University of Quebec in Abitibi-T\u00e9miscamingue (UQAT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sofien worked hard to be selected among the best in his class to come and continue his master\u2019s degree in Canada. He has been always eager to learn new things and seek knowledge. that’s why he chose to join the research community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The topic of his research is to Characterize and valorize Scots Pine wood and residues for valorization purposes. The properties of wood and residues to be characterized include density and chemical properties with a view to valorization for various applications including bioproducts and bioenergy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ginelle is a final-year Civil Engineering student who is exploring her interests and passions in Environmental Engineering. She is an advocate for environmental issues and climate change mitigation, and with research, she is able to connect her love of learning with her activism work. She currently is working on a research project that is exploring the effects of geothermal heat pumps and bioremediation on Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, and Xylene (BTEX) in the subsurface. BTEX is a common contaminant that can be found in soil and groundwater and can be caused by activities such as oil spills. Observing how BTEX reacts to these methods of remediation, will provide insight on how effective this method can be in remediating sites in Canada. After she completes this research term, she will continue working alongside Dr. Satinder Brar to complete her MASc.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
