Lassonde continues to grow, expanding programs, strengthening research, and working alongside partners to tackle real-world challenges. That steady progress is reflected in increased visibility and recognition across major international rankings. 

2025 Highlights


• Artificial Intelligence: Newly ranked in ShanghaiRanking, reflecting the emergence of a recognized and growing AI research cluster.
• Aerospace Engineering: 32nd globally and #1 in Canada for the second consecutive year (ShanghaiRanking 2025).
Mechanical Engineering: Improved globally (ShanghaiRanking).
Electrical & Electronic Engineering: Improved globally (QS).

Over the past several years, Lassonde’s research strength has led to sustained and growing recognition across major global rankings: 

2024-Present: Aerospace Engineering (ShanghaiRanking).
2023-Present: Mechanical Engineering; Environmental Science & Engineering (ShanghaiRanking); Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing Engineering (QS).
2022-Present: Telecommunications Engineering (ShanghaiRanking).

ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2025

Advancement

  • Lassonde students received a total of $15M in awards, scholarships, and bursaries, including from York. $7.2M for undergraduate students and $8M for graduate students.  (These supported their success through funding and recognition of their achievements.)
  • 444 undergraduate students received over $1.76M in awards, scholarships, and bursaries from Lassonde. (Financial support made a significant difference in their lives by reducing the cost of education and lightening the financial burden of student loans.)
  • Over $2.2M in new funding supported students, research and programs. 
  • $61.5M donated to Lassonde since its inception. (This has opened doors to higher education access and completion, particularly for those from underserved communities.)
  • 15 students were named Lassonde Scholars, receiving a $15,000 scholarship funded by the Lassonde Family Foundation in recognition of academic excellence, leadership and social-impact commitment.
