August 2026

This August, 100 high school students joined k2i academy working on AI, sustainability, energy, and space technology projects. Researchers received $3M in Connected Minds funding for AI-powered health technologies, including wearable epilepsy monitoring and social robots supporting older adults, while a sweat-based biosensor project secured over $5M to advance preventive medicine. This month, the Arbalest Rocketry team placed second at the Launch Canada Challenge, 70 undergraduates presented at the Lassonde Undergraduate Summer Research Conference, and the first-ever Pre-WeekZer0 Tune-Up welcomed incoming students ahead of the fall semester.

July 2026

July brought industry partnership discussions with EQ Bank, Wuxly Defence, and Downsview Aerospace. Other highlights included AI tools advancing cancer care, mining waste turned into 3D-printed concrete, and a smart knee brace combining engineering and health care and the 2026 D2L Innovation Award in Teaching and Learning for Lassonde’s First-Year Engineering Block Model.

June 2026

June was a month of milestones at Lassonde, from celebrating the Class of 2026 at Convocation and welcoming Honorary Doctor of Laws Professor José M. F. Moura, to launching the school’s first professional master’s degree in Sustainable Energy Systems. The month also brought recognition of Convocation medalists, five incoming Schulich Leaders, and partnership discussions with Hanwha Aerospace and Nottingham Trent University, while the Civil Engineers of Lassonde earned Best Student Chapter at the 2026 Canadian Society of Civil Engineers Annual Conference.
