Simon Barnabé is a professor in the Department of Chemistry, Biochemistry and Physics at the University of Québec at Trois-Rivières (UQTR), co-director of the Institute for Innovations in Eco-materials, Eco-Products and Eco-Energy – biomass based (I2E3) and an active member of the UQTR’s hydrogen research institute (IRH). He holds the Municipal Research Chair for Sustainable Cities and is a co-holder of the Industrial Research Chair in Bioeconomy and Regional Bioenergy. He is a field researcher who dedicates his research activities for the economic development of regions and the revitalization of local infrastructures and expertise through the diversification of biomass products. His team is well known for fostering college-university-business synergy, using municipalities as a vehicle for innovation, piloting regional projects in the broad area of the bio-sourced economy and encouraging student entrepreneurship. Mr. Barnabé is also a member of several networks (RQEI, RLS-Energy Network, Vertech City, CIRODD, CentrEAU, MRQ…) and his team is very present on the international scene, notably by organizing international summer schools.
