Empowering our people with perspectives, tools and knowledge

Video Transcript

At Lassonde, our goal is to empower our community to make a real impact. Each year, we work to help our students and faculty grow by offering support and creating opportunities for education, professional development and research.

In 2023-24, our professors were recognized by prestigious organizations such as the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE), Ontario Society for Professional Engineers (OSPE) and European Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Notable faculty achievements include an Ontario Minister’s Award of Excellence in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Canadian Geophysical Union’s J. Tuzo Wilson Medal for exceptional contributions to geosciences

In addition to advancing their fields through research and teaching excellence, our faculty are also actively supporting their students to succeed. Students have been empowered through initiatives like the Bergeron Entrepreneurs in Science and Technology (BEST) program and IBET Fellowship, which, for the first time, was awarded to an Indigenous student. We’re proud of our students who are excelling not just in the classroom, but also by giving back to their communities, leading clubs and driving change through their involvement in various initiatives.

Many of their achievements have been shared through our podcast, ‘This is Lassonde,’ which won the 2024 CCAE Prix d’Excellence for highlighting the voices and contributions of our professors, students, and alumni.

Empowering our people wouldn’t be possible without the support of our community—our generous donors, partners and everyone who helps us build an environment where students, faculty and staff support one another.

“Each year, I am blown away by the sheer scope of our faculty members’ teaching and research portfolio. It’s also great to see that the dissemination of new knowledge is not limited to academic papers, but also extends to student teaching and community outreach.”
