The Ulya Yigit EECS Outstanding Staff Award is an annual departmental recognition that honours the exceptional service of our staff to the EECS community. Named after Ulya Yigit, who served York University for 36 years, including 30 years in the EECS Department, the award celebrates individuals whose support and collegiality contribute meaningfully to the life of the department.

This award recognizes outstanding service in any of the following areas:

  • Support to students
  • Support to teaching
  • Support to faculty, or a combination thereof.

Employee Awards Eligibility
  • Open to all EECS staff.
  • Nominations must come from EECS staff or faculty colleagues.
  • Self-nominations are not permitted.
  • Nominations should briefly describe the nominee’s contributions and their impact.
  • The adjudication process is conducted by the Awards Committee through an informal scoring procedure, with final decisions based on the average scores.
  • The process is intended to be minimal and informal, with decisions based primarily on the content and strength of the submitted nominations.
  • Nominees considered in previous years but not selected may be given priority, depending on the strength of the current nomination pool.
  • Award recipients are not eligible for consideration in the two award cycles following their win.
  • The winner(s) will be announced at a departmental meeting or social event near the end of the academic year.
