Advising is an annual advising session to be completed by all Lassonde students.  All departments support Required Advising as an opportunity for students to become aware of any changes to your curriculum, remind you of specific rules for your program and update you about any changes to the university’s policies or procedures. It is also an excellent opportunity to find out about available resources that can help you on your academic journey.

Advising Webinars

The Lassonde Academic Advising team has recorded a series of webinars to assist our students with their studies and navigating administrative processes within Lassonde and at York. A webinar is an online video presentation that you can review anytime, anywhere, as long as you have an internet connection and speakers.

Petitions

A petition is a written request by a student which outlines exceptional circumstances they have faced which warrant consideration to be exempt from or have waived a Lassonde School of Engineering rule or regulation.  Submitting a petition is not always the best solution to an academic problem.  There may be alternative options available to remediate your situation.

Honours Waivers

An Honours Waiver request OR a petition to waive honours standing is a written request by a student who has been exited from an honours program outlining exceptional circumstances they have faced which warrant consideration to be allowed to continue in their program for the next academic session in order to achieve a 5.0 GPA.  For example, a student who is exited from the BENG program after the FW18 academic session will need an honours waiver to take courses in SU19.

The process for asking for an Honours Waiver differs depending on the number of credits you have earned or taken.

Academic Standards

To proceed from year to year in a Lassonde degree program, you must maintain a minimum overall cumulative grade point average (OCGPA).

The OCGPA is an average of your grades from all courses taken at York. This includes electives, required courses and even courses taken in another program at York. The OCGPA does not include grades you received in course work from another institution (e.g., transfer credits) or courses that have the notation NCR (No Credit Retained) or RLF (Course Relief).
