What factors influence developers’ adoption of AI tools? A survey-based study with Google developers

In this talk, I will share insights from a study with Google developers that aimed to answer the following question: What factors influence developers’ adoption of AI tools? I will leverage the technology acceptance model (Davis 1989) and explore feature-level factors, attitudinal factors, and their impact on stated likelihood of adoption and on actual usage. I will also discuss some preliminary results on trust in AI developer tools: what it is, whether it is a feature of developers or of the features, and its unintuitive impact on adoption. Come prepared to share your thoughts and ask for more research!
