What is required advising?
All Lassonde students are required, by their program, to participate in a required advising session at least once per year. During these sessions, an Academic Advisor will provide important updates to degree requirements and University and Faculty policies and procedures. The purpose of required advising is to keep you informed of your degree requirements and important updates to your curriculum. We also want to help you understand what is expected of you as a student and how we can help you create clear and attainable goals. Required advising also helps students and advisors connect with one another.
Students will NOT be able to enrol in Fall/Winter 2019/2020 courses if they do not complete Required Advising. For complete details, please visit our Required Advising Moodle.
Be sure to complete your session BEFORE April 30, 2019 to avoid any delays enrolling in courses.
Required advising will take approximatley 1.5 hours to complete all components. Required Advising is separate from drop-in advising sessions, academic advising appointments, or pop-up advising events.
Enrolment Block Removal
If you have recently completed Required Advising we will be removing enrolment blocks once per week on Tuesday mornings. Please note that block removal is not an automatic process upon completion of Required Advising.
Our weekly enrollment block removal will occur as follows:
If you have completed any outstanding required advising components before 9:30am on Monday, you will have the opportunity to enroll by Tuesday morning.
If you have any outstanding Required Advising tasks to complete, you will receive an email from Daniella Primi, our Enrolment Coordinator. Please search your email for any previous communications you have received. It is also important to read the Required Advising Moodle site carefully for all instructions and pertinent information. Should you have any additional questions, please connect with an Academic Advisor.

1st Year Students
In the Fall term, advisors will visit core first year Lassonde program courses to deliver an advising presentation complete with important information students should know during their first year.

BENG students, click here for a copy of your Fall term presentation, including helpful web links.
In the Winter term, first year students will be required to register for and attend a small in-person group advising workshop. Additionally, students will be responsible for completing some Moodle components. Students can register for their workshop and see all required elements by enrolling into the Lassonde Required Advising Moodle course.
2nd Year Students
In the Winter term, second year students will be required to register for and attend a small in-person group advising workshop. Additionally, students will be responsible for completing some Moodle components. Students can register for their workshop and see all required elements by enrolling into the Lassonde Required Advising Moodle course.
Upper Year Students
Third- and fourth-year students will complete their required advising session online via a pre-recorded webinar presentation. Additionally, students will be responsible for completing some Moodle components. Students can access the webinar and see all required elements by enrolling into the Lassonde Required Advising Moodle course after February 15, 2019.
How is completion of required advising tracked?
First and second year students will sign an attendance sheet upon arrival at their in-person required advising session. Students who arrive more than 10 minutes late (or leave early) will not be recorded as “attended” and will need to register for another session. All other components, including the online feedback and assessment form will be tracked and verified via Moodle.
All Upper year student requirements, including curriculum updates and the online feedback and assessment form will be tracked and verified via Moodle.
Completion of your required advising session in full ensures you do not miss important information and you don't experience delays in enroling for FW2019-2020.
Is there a deadline to complete required advising?
Fall/Winter 2019/2020 enrolment windows will open in June. Complete your required advising by April 30, 2019 to ensure sufficient time for your enrolment block to be removed by June.
If you need a refresher on your Fall/Winter 2017/2018 required advising session, our webinar recordings are still available for download.
