This information is for current York students interested in applying to a Lassonde program for Fall/Winter 2019-2020 session.

 


 

Applying to a BSc or BA

 

Computer Science or Computer Security

What are the minimum academic requirements to be considered for Computer Science or Computer Security?

  • Minimum 24 credits completed at York University.

  • Minimum 5.0 for an Honours degree or minimum of 4.0 for an Ordinary degree.

  • Completion of:

MHF4U and one other 4U math (MCV4U recommended) with an overall average of 75% (with no math grade below 65%);

OR

6.00 credits of SC/Math (where the course code includes a second digit of 5) with an overall average of 7.0 (B+);

OR

6.00 credits of SC/Math (where the course code does not include a second digit of 5) with an overall average of 5.00 (C+).

Must be completed within the last 5 years.

  • If applying to a BSc program, completion of SCH4U or SPH4U or equivalent (e.g., SC/CHEM 1500, SC/PHYS 1510) is also required. Must be completed within the last 5 years.

  • If you have completed any LE/EECS course without a second digit of 5 in the past, an EECS GPA of 4.50 will also be required.

  • Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

Digital Media

  • Minimum 24 credits completed at York University.

  • Minimum 5.0 for an Honours degree or minimum of 4.0 for an Ordinary degree.

  • 4M Arts or similar training (recommended)

  • Completion of:

4U math with an overall average of 75% (completed prior to entry to York);

OR

6.00 credits of SC/Math (where the course code includes a second digit of 5) with an overall average of 7.0 (B+);

OR

6.00 credits of SC/Math (where the course code does not include a second digit of 5) with an overall average of 5.00 (C+).

Engineering (BENG)

The following information pertains to:

1) current first-year Engineering students or students who have yet to declare an Engineering major

2) upper-year Engineering students who want to change their Engineering major

3) current York students exited from Engineering wishing to return to Engineering

4) students who want to apply to transfer into the Bachelor of Engineering (BEng.) from another York program.

 

1) Declaring Your Engineering Major

Who uses this process?

First year Engineering students who started in 2018-19 must declare a major in their second term in the BEng at Lassonde. For example, if you started in Fall 2018 you will have to declare in the Winter 2019 term.  Students who are currently enrolled in the BEng program who have not declared need to declare during this period as well.

Please note: Students will be blocked from enrolling in courses for the next Fall/Winter session if they have not declared a major by the end of their second term in Engineering.

What are the minimum academic requirements to declare my major?

Undeclared students must be eligible to continue in Engineering in order to declare their Engineering major.

Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into your top choice of Engineering major.

How do I apply?

Apply via an online form available here (see below) during the application period. 

When do I apply?

The application will be open from January 15th - April 30th, 2019 inclusive.

When will my new major be effective?

Your new major will be effective in the 2019-20 Fall/Winter Session.

When will I be notified of a decision?

Communication will go out to students at some point in June via email. During peak periods or if unforeseen circumstances arise, communication may be delayed. 

If you submitted your Engineering Declaration after May 5, 2019, we will be processing your declaration and communicating decisions in mid-late July.

If you were exited from Engineering after the FW18 academic session but have since had your decision change or a petition and/or honours waiver granted allowing you to continue, we will be processing your declaration and communicating decisions in mid-late July.

2) Changing Your Engineering Major

Who uses this process?

Students who are in a specific Engineering major and want to change to another Engineering major (e.g. Electrical Engineering to Mechanical Engineering) OR Students who wish to add the International Development studies Dual Degree or remove it.

What are the minimum academic requirements for the program?

Engineering students applying to change their major in Engineering must be in good academic standing and eligible to continue in Engineering to be considered for their program of choice. 

Please note: Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into a different major.

How do I apply?

Apply via an online form available here during the application period. 

When do I apply?

The application will be available March 1st - April 30th, 2019.

If I get in, when will it be effective?

If you are accepted into a new Engineering major, it will be effective for the 2019-20 Fall/Winter session.

Transferring Into Engineering

 

3) Current York students exited from Engineering wishing to return to Engineering

 

Who uses this process?

Current York students in any other degree that have been exited previously from Engineering and wish to return to Engineering. 

What are the minimum academic requirements for the program?

Current York students who wish to return to the BEng program must meet the following minimum academic requirements by the application deadline to be considered for the program.

  • Minimum 5.0 overall cumulative GPA

Please note: Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.  If you do not meet the minimum requirements by the application deadline your application will not be considered. 

How do I apply?

Complete the online application form.

When do I apply?

The application will be available March 1st - May 31st, 2019.

Please note:  Until you are notified otherwise, you should enroll in courses for the 2019-20 Fall/Winter and/or Summer session in the program you are currently in.  If admitted to Engineering, you will enrol in courses in Engineering at that time.

If I get in, when will it be effective?

If you are accepted back into Engineering, it will be effective for the 2019-20 Fall/Winter session.

When will I be notified of a decision?

Communication will go out to students in July 2019 via email. During peak periods or if unforeseen circumstances arise, communication may be delayed.

 

APPLY TO RETURN TO ENGINEERING

 

4) Current York students looking to transfer into Engineering

Process

  1. Complete the minimum academic requirements for entry into the Engineering program (see below).

  2. Complete the initial online application between May 1, 2019 and June 27th, 2019.

    • Students who complete the online application by Thursday, June 27th, 2019 and meet the minimum academic requirements will receive an email with a link to complete an online interview.

    • Links will be sent on an ongoing basis up to and including June 28th, 2019.

  3. Complete the online interview by July 1st, 2019.

Notes:

  • Meeting the minimum academic requirements for the program does not guarantee admissions

  • Completing the application and online interview does not guarantee admission to the program

  • Should you miss one of the deadlines listed above your application may not be considered

  • Spaces are limited

 

Who uses this process?

Current York students in any other degree (e.g. BSc Computer Science or BA Political Science) who want to change their degree to BEng.  

What are the minimum academic requirements for the program?

Current York students who wish to enter into the BEng program must meet the following minimum academic requirements by the application deadline to be considered for the program.

  • Minimum 24 credits completed at York University

  • Minimum 5.0 overall cumulative GPA

  • Completion of the following prerequisites with a grade of 70% or above (within the last five years) at a high school level or above: Physics, Chemistry, Calculus, Advanced Functions

Please note: Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.   If you do not meet the minimum requirements by the application deadline of June 27th, 2019 your application will not be considered. 

How do I apply?

Application for Degree Change to BENG

When do I apply?

The initial online application will be available May 1st - June 27th, 2019.

Those who submit the initial online application by June 27th, 2019 and meet the minimum requirements are sent an interview link. The online interview will be available until July 1st, 2019.  The online interview must be completed by July 1st, 2019.

Please note:  Until you are notified otherwise, you should enroll in courses for the 2019-20 Fall/Winter and/or Summer session in the program you are currently in.  If admitted to Engineering, you will enrol in courses in Engineering at that time.

If I get in, when will it be effective?

It will be effective for the 2019-20 Fall/Winter session.
