This information is for current York students interested in applying to a Lassonde program for the Summer or Fall/Winter 2018-2019 sessions.

 


 

Applying to a BSc or BA

 

Computer Science or Computer Security

What are the minimum academic requirements to be admitted to Computer Science or Computer Security?

  • Minimum 24 credits completed at York University
  • Minimum 5.0 for an Honours degree or minimum of 4.0 for an Ordinary degree
  • Completion of MHF4U and one other 4U math (MCV4U recommended) with an overall average of 75% (with no math grade below 65%)  OR  completion of 6.00 credits of SC/Math (where the course code includes a second digit of 5) with an overall average of 7.0 (B+) OR completion of 6.0 credits of SC/Math (where the course code does not include a second digit of 5) with an overall average of 5.00 (C+). Must be completed within the last 5 years.
  • If applying to a BSc program, completion of SCH4U or SPH4U or equivalent (e.g., SC/CHEM 1500, SC/PHYS 1510) is also required. Must be completed within the last 5 years.
  • If you have completed any LE/EECS course without a second digit of 5 in the past, an EECS GPA of 4.50 will also be required.

Space Science, Earth & Atmospheric Science or Digital Media

The following information pertains to i) current first-year Engineering students who need to declare a major, ii) upper-year Engineering students who want to change their Engineering major, and iii) students who want to apply to transfer into the Bachelor of Engineering (BEng.) from another York program.

 

Declaring Your Engineering Major

Who uses this process?

First year Engineering students who started in 2017-18 or who are undeclared must declare a major in their second term in the BEng at Lassonde. For example, if you started in Fall 2017 you will have to declare in the Winter 2018 term.

Please note: Students will be blocked from enrolling in courses for the next Fall/Winter session if they have not declared a major by the end of their second term in Engineering.

What are the minimum academic requirements to declare my major?

Undeclared students must be eligible to continue in Engineering in order to declare their Engineering major.

Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into your top choice of Engineering major.

How do I apply?

Apply online here.  The application will be available on January 15, 2018.

When do I apply?

Apply anytime between January 15, 2018 and April 29, 2018.

When will my new major be effective?

Your new major will be effective in the 2018-19 Fall / Winter Session.

When will I be notified of a decision?

Normally by early June via email. During peak periods, it may take longer.

 


 

Changing Your Engineering Major

Who uses this process?

Students who are in a specific Engineering major and want to change to another Engineering major (e.g. Electrical Engineering to Mechanical Engineering).

What are the minimum academic requirements for the program?

Engineering students applying to change their major in Engineering must be in good academic standing and eligible to continue in Engineering to be considered for their program of choice. 

Please note: Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into a different major.

When do I apply?

Apply anytime between March 1, 2018 and April 29, 2018.

How do I apply?

Apply online here.  The application will be available on March 1, 2018.

If I get in, when will it be effective?

If you are accepted into a new Engineering major, it will be effective for the 2018-19 Fall/Winter session.

When will I be notified of a decision?

Normally by early June via email. During peak periods, it may take longer.

 


 

Transferring Into Engineering

Who uses this process?

Current York students in any other degree (e.g. BSc Computer Science or BA Political Science) who want to change their degree to BEng.  

What are the minimum academic requirements for the program?

Current York students who wish to enter into the BEng program must meet the following minimum academic requirements to be considered for the program.

  • Minimum 24 credits completed at York University

  • Minimum 5.0 overall cumulative GPA

  • Completion of the following prerequisites with a grade of 70% or above (within the last five years) at a high school level or above: Physics, Chemistry, Calculus, Advanced Functions

Please note: Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. 

How do I apply?

Apply online here.  The application will be available on May 1, 2018.

When do I apply?

May 1, 2018 to June 29, 2018.

Please note:  You should enroll in courses for the 2018-19 Fall/Winter and /or Summer session in the program you are currently in.  If admitted to Engineering, you will enrol in courses in Engineering at that time.

If I get in, when will it be effective?

Next Fall/Winter Session. 

When will I be notified of a decision?

Normally by the end of July by email.  However, during peak periods it may take longer.
