Message from the Dean

Engineering was first offered as a discipline at York 20 years ago, since then we have come a very long way. When the Lassonde School of Engineering launched ten years ago, we purposely blurred the boundaries between our disciplines. From the start, we were united by a common desire to create a better world by thinking differently and finding unique solutions to big problems through interdisciplinary partnerships.

Each one of you, as students and now graduates, played a big part in creating that vision and in shaping Lassonde into the thriving community of engineers, scientists and entrepreneurs we are today.

As Lassonde alumni, we hope you are as proud to have been a part of this school as we are to have had you here. I hope your time at Lassonde helped spark your creativity and innovation and empowered you to think in big systems rather than small silos, design with people in mind and overcome ambiguity.

As Lassonde has grown, so too has the positive local and global impact of our community thanks to graduates like you, whose different perspectives consistently serve to strengthen our core educational and research mission. Our school has grown by 330% since inception, exceeding all expectations. Just this year, our Computer Science program was ranked top 10 in Canada, coming in at number eight on the Times Higher Education list, and this is only the beginning.

We have big plans for the future and we want you to be a part of them. You can look forward to receiving three annual updates from us about all the exciting developments at our School; in December, April and September. We are also happy to connect with you any time of the year, so please reach out to Associate Director, Advancement, Ed Wickham ed.wickham@lassonde.yorku.ca to share your journey and successes.

As you browse through our first alumni newsletter, I hope you enjoy reading about the many stories of strength, perseverance, and innovation across our community of creators comprised of researchers, alumni, students and partners.

Sincerely,

Jane Goodyer
Dean, Lassonde School of Engineering
