Lassonde student Farzia Khan wins top YorkU student award


Lassonde computer science student Farzia Khan has received the Robert Tiffin Student Leadership Award from York University.

Each year, seven outstanding York University students are honoured with this prize for their leadership, dedication, integrity and enthusiasm.

Lassonde’s Dean Janusz Kozinski who attended the ceremony to honour the winners said,

“Farzia represents the Lassonde spirit. She is dynamic, determined and dedicated in everything she does. She’s always ready to ask ‘why not?’ whenever she is faced with a challenge or a new opportunity. Everyone at Lassonde is happy to see Farzia recognized with this tremendous and well-deserved honour.”

Farzia added, “This is a very special award and it’s very humbling to be part of such a fantastic group of YorkU students who were nominated this year. I am a proud Lassonde student and a member of the wider YorkU family. I intend to continue to be part of building an even stronger, more diverse and united community throughout my time here as a student.”

Farzia is a passionate and committed leader at Lassonde.

She is the Lassonde Director in the York Federation of Students, a former Vice Chair of the Lassonde Student Government and a founding member (and now President) of the Women in Science and Engineering chapter (WISE) at Lassonde.

She is an active member of the student recruitment team and actively volunteers to help encourage young female high school students to pursue STEM programs.

Farzia is spending this summer undertaking an internship at BMO Financial Group.
