Professor Liam Colgan on the cover of YorkU magazine

Professor William Colgan is featured on the cover of this year’s fall issue of The York University Magazine.

The article outlines his 36-day investigation of Greenland’s ice sheets and the effects of rising temperatures, including some surprising discoveries made which changed the results of research done in 2012.

As a member of NASA’s FirnCover research team, Professor Colgan worked with them to match his own samples to data collected by their satellites.

Having experience working in icy conditions makes his potential next step a logical one. Professor Colgan recently put his name on the Canadian Space Agency’s list of those interested in applying for training for future NASA missions.

While he doesn’t believe his chances in getting to the next round of astronaut selection are big, he would consider the opportunity as an interesting side project.
