Lassonde student awarded Hydro One 2015 Women in Engineering Scholarship
Linda Chigbo, a second-year electrical engineering student at York University’s Lassonde School of Engineering, has been selected to receive the Hydro One 2015 Women in Engineering Scholarship.
The prestigious award is granted for outstanding postsecondary achievement by women in the electrical engineering discipline in Ontario.
“This award means a lot to me and it’s only a glimpse of what the future holds for me,” says Chigbo. “Being one of the first winners of this debut award, I hope to set an example for others to come. I’m so inspired now to work even harder than I’ve done in the past. I’m extremely grateful to Hydro One for the financial support and encouragement to women in engineering.”
Part of Hydro One’s One Awards student scholarship program, the Women in Engineering Scholarship recognizes outstanding Canadian students attending college or university in Ontario.
“Linda is an exceptional student and we are very proud to see her recognized with this well-deserved honour,” says Lassonde’s Founding Dean Janusz Kozinski. “As part of the Lassonde 50:50 Challenge, we are determined to give more female students the chance to pursue engineering. Linda is certainly an impressive role model for all our students and, in particular, our aspiring female engineers.”
Winners receive a $5,000 financial reward along with an opportunity to work for Hydro One in a paid developmental work placement.
Chigbo is currently on a co-op placement at Hydro One for the summer.
