Lassonde’s Christian Haas cited in Geographical Magazine

Lassonde Professor Christian Haas has been cited in this month’s issue of Geographical Magazine.

Professor Haas is a professor at Lassonde and the Canada Research Chair for Arctic Sea Ice Geophysics. His research, published earlier this year, measured Arctic ice in 2011 and later in 2015. Haas concluded that the Northwest Passage is still years away from becoming a viable commercial route despite shrinking ice.

‘In the public debate it sounds very promising and very realistic that soon there will be a lot of traffic,’ says Christian Haas, Canada Research Chair for Arctic Sea Ice Geophysics. ‘But experts doubt the reliability and feasibility of shipping through the Northwest Passage.’

Geographical is the magazine of the Royal Geographical Society and was founded in 1935.
