Project Title: Designing Sustainable and Responsible Supply Chain Operations

Project Description: This research project develops mathematical models and data-driven decision-making tools for sustainable and socially responsible operations in supply chains and manufacturing systems. 
The student will contribute to one or more of the following themes: 
(i) Designing contract mechanisms to promote responsible operations across multitier supply chains. 
(ii) Analyzing optimal supply network structures under supplier responsibility risks (e.g., environmental violations, labor practices), and 
(iii) Examining how non-compliance penalties affect operations and worker safety in the mining industry.
Duties and Responsibilities:  
• Conduct literature reviews on topics related to supply chain management, sustainability, and operations research
• Assist in developing and analyzing mathematical models using game theory, contract theory, and optimization  
• Collect, clean, and analyze real-world data from supply chain, mining, and sustainability databases  
• Perform numerical experiments and/or simulations to validate theoretical models  
• Participate in research meetings and present findings 
Desired Technical Skills:  
• Experience with mathematical modeling or optimization  
• Programming experience in R and/or Python 
Desired Course(s): Coursework in optimization, statistics, econometrics, machine learning, microeconomics, or game theory 
Other Desired Qualifications:  
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills  
• Excellent written and oral communication skills  
• Ability to work independently and learn new methods  
• Interest in sustainability, socially responsible operations, and supply chain risk management  
• Interest in pursuing a PhD in Operations Management or a related field is a strong asset
