Our Winter 2022 Plans

Lassonde will be adopting a phased approach to return to on-campus and in-person course delivery, with labs in some courses set to begin the week of January 31. See below for more information.

We wanted to ensure that students are prepared for return to campus, know what to expect, know how to access services, and understand the health and safety protocols in place in advance of returning. Please review the content of this page carefully.

Please review the content on this page to see specific course and program information from each of our departments along with a list of helpful resources. We also recommend that students review the “notes” section of each class when selecting their Winter semester courses.

Phased Return Itinerary

  • Courses that were previously authorized to provide in-person activities will continue to operate in person.
  • All 1000-level and graduate courses originally scheduled to be delivered on campus but temporarily moved to a remote format will return to campus delivery starting Monday, February 7
  • All graduate courses, including those offered together with 4000-level courses, will return to campus starting Monday, February 7.
  • All other courses originally scheduled to be delivered on campus this Winter term but temporarily delivered through remote learning will return to campus starting Monday, February 14
  • Instructors of courses approved (see below) for earlier returns should notify their students at least 5 business days in advance of the first on-campus class.
  • If a student is unable to come to campus for in-person courses, then they can explore alternative options such as online courses. Should you need further assistance you can speak with a member of our Advising team or Graduate Support Team

Additional information for students is available at York’s Better Together site.

Back-to-school resources for students such as learning support, financial support, mental health and wellbeing, etc., can be found at York’s Current Students site.

FAQ

If a student is unable to come to campus for in-person courses for the duration of the winter term, then they can explore alternative options such as online courses. Students are encouraged to drop in-person courses if they are unable to attend in-person for the duration of winter semester. Please connect with an Academic Advisor to discuss further.
Our vaccination policy remains in effect.  Students, faculty, staff and visitors will still be required to complete a daily screening tool before visiting campus. Our policy requiring the use of masks (except for those with approved exemptions) remains in effect.  Enhanced cleaning protocols and ventilation also remain in effect. To learn more about vaccines and how they were developed, see the “Vaccine information” tab on the Better Together site.

When attending campus please be prepared to show your YU Screen Daily Screening Green checkmark. There will be various points when accessing buildings that this will be required. Please do not come to campus if you fail YU Screen or are feeling unwell.
York University is requiring all students living in residence for the 2021-22 academic year to be vaccinated. This requirement is supported by Toronto Public Health, as it is recognized that vaccines are a safe and effective way to protect those who come in contact with others, especially in shared spaces. For more information, visit York’s Better Together site.
York University has a website dedicated to keeping international students informed. Please visit the International Student FAQ to learn more.
All faculty, staff, instructors, students, researchers, contractors, visitors and vendors are required to complete a COVID-19 screening for EVERY campus visit on the day of their visit. The screening must be done PRIOR to coming onto campus. Please use the Lassonde Engineering COVID Screening Verification Checklist prior to coming onto campus. This form has been updated to include YU Screen, the university’s new COVID-19 self-assessment screening tool, to help streamline the screening and verification process.
In general, building hours are 7:00 am-9:00 pm Monday to Friday. Buildings are closed on weekends.
We understand many students aren’t very familiar with campus yet. There are some 3D campus and Bergeron tours available to help you prepare. As well, we will be hosting campus tours the week of January 31 and February 7 to assist you with way-finding. Information on these sessions TBA.
