Bio
Wang has been teaching in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at York University since 2019. He holds a BEng in Industrial Management Engineering, as well as a BSc and MSc in Computer Science. He earned his PhD in Computer Science at York University in 2014, where his research focused on developing exploration and mapping algorithms for various robotic systems. His academic excellence was recognized through several prestigious awards, including the NSERC Postgraduate Scholarships (PGS-D and PGS-M) and the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS). Following his doctoral studies, he completed a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in the same field.
After his postdoc, he worked for five years in industry as a software engineer, focusing primarily on large-scale software systems—such as ERP and engineering database systems—for the aviation sector.
With over 15 years of combined experience in academia and industry, Hui offers a broad and practical perspective on Computer Science. His teaching and research interests span a wide range of topics, including Computer Science Education, Data Structures and Algorithms, Object-Oriented Design and Programming, Software Engineering, Web and Mobile Application Development, E-Commerce Systems, Database systems, Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, and Robotic Exploration & Mapping.
Hui has also led the design and revamping of several undergraduate courses to align with evolving industry standards and educational best practices.
Beyond his role at York, he has taught Computer Science courses at other universities and developed online courses for international academic organizations.
Hui is passionate about teaching and student engagement, and approaches both education and research with an open mind and a positive spirit.
