Bio

Dr. Mona Nasery is an Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Teaching Stream) at York University. She completed her PhD in Information Systems at McMaster University. She was also a sessional instructor and teaching assistant for several courses at McMaster University. Her research interests broadly include Social Media Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, User Behavior Analysis, and Recommender Systems.

Before her PhD, she lived in Milan, Italy where she studied and worked for 7 years. She received both her B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Computer Engineering. After her Master's, she worked in the Recommender Systems group at Politecnico di Milano. In 2015, she spent 6 months in Helsinki, Finland and 6 months in Trento, Italy to work on an EU-funded project "Developing Applications for Smart Spaces".

Mona is also a certified Group Fitness Instructor. She loves sports and enjoys running and walking in her free time.

Research Interests

  • Data Analytics & Social Media Analysis (users’ behavior, information flow, echo-chambers, and polarization)
  • Artificial Intelligence (biases, explainability, and fairness in AI, Generative AI risks such as deepfakes, or impact on fraud)
  • e-Commerce (user experience, review analysis, and Recommender Systems)
