Bio

Dr. Sukhwant Sagar is an Assistant Professor in the Teaching Stream (CLA) in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at York University. She holds a PhD in Information Technology from the University of Salford (UK), a Master of Science in Software Systems from BITS Pilani, India, and a B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering from Punjab Technical University, India. With nearly 22 years of experience in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in Computer Science and Software Engineering, Dr. Sagar brings extensive expertise to her role.

Dr. Sagar develops and teaches courses in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Cybersecurity. Prior to her current position, she taught at Durham College, where she also served as the Program Coordinator for the Cybersecurity Graduate Certificate program. In this role, she was instrumental in designing and implementing comprehensive educational programs and fostering academic collaborations with various industry partners. Additionally, Dr. Sagar has been a Sessional Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Ontario Tech University.

Dr. Sagar is a member of the MITACS reviewer committee, where she evaluates Mitacs Accelerate research proposals for graduate and PhD students. She was invited to participate in the Waterloo security dialogue round table discussion in partnership with CIGI (Center for International Governance Innovation) and Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst, Toronto Metropolitan University, to address the critical shortage of cybersecurity professionals and enhance the Canadian cybersecurity workforce. She was also appointed as a third-party assessor by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, PARIS: Program Approval & Registration Information System, for private colleges developing cybersecurity programs.

Additionally, Dr. Sagar served as an advisory board member for the International Conference on Recent Trends in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (ICRTAIDS-2024). She has been a speaker at Canadian Women in Cybersecurity, the CISO Forum, the (ISC)² Toronto Chapter, the Public Sector Network, and various other tech-related forums and conferences.

Outside the classroom, Dr. Sagar is dedicated to continuous professional development. She recently became an AWS Cloud Certified Developer – Associate and is also a Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Microsoft Azure Cloud Practitioner, AWS Cloud Practitioner, and Accredited Educator. Dr. Sagar stays current with emerging trends and best practices in her field through memberships in prestigious professional organizations such as IEEE, ISTE and CSI.
