Satinder Kaur Brar
Professor, Civil Engineering
Dr. Satinder Kaur Brar is a nationally and internationally recognized researcher with exceptional expertise in value-addition of wastes and removal of emerging contaminants.
Dr. Brar has been passionate about chemistry since her high school days in India, but it wasn’t until her master’s studies at the National Chemistry Lab in Pune that she had an “A-ha” experience that significantly altered her career path.
She studied at the India Institute of Technology (IIT) in Mumbai, where she was introduced to micro-organisms. Her fascination with micro-organisms led her to a position with the Government of India where she created a database of the contamination caused by testing explosives and explored phytoremediation using microorganisms found in the roots of trees and plants.
Professor Brar decided to come to Canada to study for her PhD and decided to continue her career here.

Indian Cultural Association
ICA is a cohesive group of students who strive to strengthen members’ knowledge and keen interest in India. ICA positions itself as a home away from home and a means to develop bonds and friendships among students through cultural and social programming.
Women In Science and Engineering
This club centres around the advancement of women, girls, and gender-diverse students in STEM. This is an inclusive, student-led team that builds supportive networks through hosting local workshops, panels and national hackathons.
York University Robotics Society
The York University Robotics Society is an organization dedicated to educating and promoting robotics and mechatronics in the community. Students have the choice between the Rover Team and Sumobot Team.
