New chair of Department of Civil Engineering

Professor Dan Palermo has been announced as the new chair of the Department of Civil Engineering. His term will start on July 1, 2018, until June 30, 2021.

Dr. Palermo is an Associate Professor of Structural Engineering in the Department of Civil Engineering and the research lead of the High Bay Lab at the Bergeron Centre. He is a member of many engineering associations in Ontario and a leader in teaching and research.

His excellence in teaching was recognized at the 2018 convocation, where he was awarded the York University President’s University-Wide Teaching Award. He was recently awarded the distinction of Fellow from the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering. 

Under Dr. Palermo’s leadership, the department will continue to build upon the strong foundation that was established during the past 5 years.

Dr. Palermo’s energy and drive will work to raise our profile both nationally and internationally. The department will venture into research and teaching areas that are critical to the projected growth of the GTA including the expansion into a M.Eng program offering.
