Message from the Dean

Dear Alumni,

It’s that time of year again. Summer, with its warm sunshine and long days, always makes everything feel bold, new and exciting. That’s a lot like what our newest alumni must be feeling. New bright-eyed and eager engineers and scientists have joined your alumni ranks. It was wonderful to see them off at our June convocation ceremony last week! I hope you were able to attend Lassonde’s Convocation Cocktail reception for which all alumni received an invitation. It was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with our Lassonde family, including old friends and faculty members.

I’m sure each of you fondly remembers your own graduation day and the promise of the wonderful future it holds. As we go into the workforce and have fewer formal opportunities to commemorate our milestones, it’s important to take a pause, reflect and celebrate what we’ve achieved – and we have a lot to celebrate!

It’s been a busy spring at Lassonde, and we’ve made some incredible progress. For one, we’ve been promoting our fully work-integrated program in Digital Technologies, launching in just a few months, at various organizations and conferences, including the CIO Peer Forum and the Learning & Development Conference, where we presented with Shopify. We now have several employer partners on board and learners ready with placements for the Fall. If you’re an employer who’s interested in learning more, please get in touch.

I’ve also been very busy building partnerships for our School. Over the past couple of months, I’ve attended Toronto Region Board of Trade events, the 2023 Engineering Deans Institute in San Juan, Puerto Rico and the Engineering Deans Canada Meeting in Quebec City. In addition, I’ve met with several partners and donors, many of whom have hired Lassonde graduates – or who are alumni themselves. After all, our collective success has been, and will continue to be, achieved by our valued partnerships.

We’ve also had many exciting research, teaching and learning accomplishments across the School, and I hope you enjoy reading about them in this newsletter.

Finally, I’d like to say a big congratulations to three of our incredible alumni who were named in York University’s Top 30 Under 30 list. Congratulations Raghavender Sahdev, Robert Ingino and Theresa Nguyen, a Lassonde Scholar.  We’re so proud to see you creating positive change!

As always, I encourage you to stay connected with your Lassonde community through social media or by reaching out to Associate Director, Advancement, Ed Wickham at ed.wickham@lassonde.yorku.ca to share your journey and explore opportunities to collaborate.

I hope you have a wonderful summer!

Sincerely,

Jane Goodyer
Dean, Lassonde School of Engineering
